Neston Town Centre Redevelopment – overview
The new Sainsbury supermarket makes use of the slope down from the Town Hall to the railway, and down from Raby Road to Brook Street.
The supermarket is about twice the size of the Aldi supermarket in Neston. The trading area is about 2,000m2 (20,000 sq ft) plus a cafe of 100m2 (1,000 sq ft).
The plans can be seen on-line via the Cheshire West & Chester website via this link
Level one includes a car park: cars can enter and leave via Brook Street, and can leave via level two to Raby Road. There is also a service yard where lorries (not articulated) turn round and deliver goods: lorries enter and leave via Brook Street.
Level two includes a car park, accessed from level one: cars can leave via Raby Road.
Level three includes a car park with parking for disabled people and for parents with children: cars enter and leave via level two. The supermarket and Town Square are on this level. Pedestrians can enter and leave the Town Square from Brook Street, High Street and Raby Road.
Level four includes 14 flats: six have views over the Town Square and three overlook Raby Road.
There are more car parking spaces than before the redevelopment, and none are lost on Fridays, when the market is held. All (apart from 14 on level two for residents of the flats) are available to all visitors to Neston, but limited to three hours. There are three motorcycle stands and 12 cycle stands.
The Market Square is about 2,000m2 (20,000 sq ft) and has space for 111 market stalls. Market traders’ vehicles enter from Brook Street.
Sainsbury’s opened on 1 December 2010.
